It was in 1720 that the Protheau family, owners of Château d'Etroyes, began to cultivate vines on the Mercurey soils.It was from these years onwards that the estate began to expand, from generation to generation.

Our wines are made from the best qualities of each terroir of the vineyard, from the Chablisien to the Beaujolais crus, via the Côte de Nuits,
Côte de Beaune, Côte Châlonnaise and Mâconnais, showcasing the finest expressions of the vineyard's emblematic varieties:
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay.

Origin
The Maranges area forms a link between the Côte-d’Or and the Saône-et-Loire. Its vineyards are interlocked with those of neighbouring Santenay.
Vinification
Traditional vinification in thermos-regulated stainless steel vats on a 3 weeks period: Cold pre-fermentation maceration around 8 ° C.
Pigeages and pumping over to extract colour and structure. Fermentation with a
peak temperature around 30 ° C. Post fermentation maceration at 25 ° C. Ageing in oak barrels between 8 to 16 months with malolactic fermentation. 40 to 50% of
new oak barrels.
Soil
The soil consists of limestone containing marl and clay.
Sensory characteristic
Colour: a ruby-raspberry colour.
Nose: blackcurrant, wild strawberry, coffee notes due to the ageing in oak barrels.
Palate: on the palate, fresh, intense and spicy aromas (liquorice, pepper). With the tannins, the wine reveals a good lenght on the palate and it's fine and velvety.
Accords
Ideal on meats : rib steaks, stewed or with sauce lamb or beef, roast pork or stewed poultry.
Soft cheeses (Camembert, Brie…) or cheeses with developed flavours (Munster, Maroilles, Epoisses, Reblochon…)
